Helen graduated with a degree in human genetics from the University of Nottingham before completing a masters degree in computer science at the University of Wales.  Her enjoyment in learning about new and diverse technologies and her determination to use her diverse scientific qualifications drove her to pursue a career as a patent attorney.  In 2003 she completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law at The University of Manchester and began her career in private practice as a trainee patent attorney in 2004.

Helen qualified as a Chartered and European Patent Attorney and a European Design Attorney in 2008 and then went on to obtain her qualifications as a Registered and European Trade Mark Attorney.

In addition to genetics and computer-related inventions, Helen’s particular technical expertise is broad due to her enthusiasm to take on a range of technologies and her ability to understand them.  Her technical experience also covers biotechnology, healthcare, mechanical inventions, medical and dental devices including implants, food technology, textiles and filtration.   She has extensive knowledge in patent prosecution in the UK and Europe and in providing infringement and invalidity opinions based on UK law.

During her career she has acquired vast experience in working with a range of clients including individuals, SMEs, large companies and Universities and their spin-outs in both patent and trade mark matters.

Over the last 15 years Helen has had experience of working in two private practice firms based in the North West of England.  Having been promoted to Senior Associate in her most recent role, Helen was an active participant in the business development and was a member of the firm’s marketing committee.

Helen is often described as an approachable patent attorney.  She is focused on making a real difference to our clients by helping them to develop effective strategies to protect their intellectual property and finding innovative solutions to problems.  She believes in the importance of building good relationships with clients and taking the time to understand their businesses and their goals in order to give relevant advice.

Helen is an active person and enjoys spending time with her little girl as well as walking, running and snowboarding in her spare time.

Forrest Oberg
Consultant

Forrest_Oberg1.jpgForrest has a wealth of experience with running successful businesses having operated at management, senior management and director level for over 37 years.

During his career Forrest has acquired a high level of specific technical expertise in the printing industry and has detailed knowledge of the five major printing processes and many of the ancillary processes used in the industry.  His experience and knowledge covers sheet-fed printing, rotary reel fed printing, surface coatings, metallic embellishments and embossing/ debossing on a host of different paper, plastic and metallic substrates and finishing/converting processes.  Forrest has also been involved in managing major technological changes in both printing and print finishing operations and in so doing, pioneered new technologies in both disciplines.  He is therefore, no stranger to innovative processes and machinery.

In addition to the normal commercial and manufacturing disciplines of business, Forrest led teams responsible for Quality Assurance, Health and Safety, Research and Development and Industrial Relations giving him extremely broad industrial experience that he is able to use to great effect.  In particular, Forrest has an excellent track record in putting together talented and successful teams at both management and technical level and has a reputation for cultivating a supportive and welcoming working environment.  As such, he is able to ask for high levels of dedication from his teams, who deliver in the form of exceptional performance on a daily basis.

In his management roles, he travelled in Europe and the USA, visiting the manufacturers of machinery used in the printing industry and this knowledge enabled his own company to gain a technical advantage in manufacturing techniques.  He was also privileged to visit other companies engaged in the manufacture of similar products to those produced in his own companies and this enabled him to assess alternative methodologies.  Having engaged with large companies during his time in the printing industry, it is fair to say that Forrest understands what they need from their suppliers.

Forrest’s focus is to help us realise effective people management, client support and business operation practices that support our plans for growth.
